My filter covers virtually everything Sting has ever appeared on, except for 2-3 songs by The Police. It searches for words and phrases like "chasm," "pilgrim's cloak," "fields of barley," "battlements," "dark machineries of fate," etc etc... then destroys the song that carries said virus.

I have only one song on my iPod, but I'm pretty sure it's the best song ever. I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it.
Twice it's saved my life.
I'm not telling what it is though.
Never.
Ever.

Oh yeah, creating your own genres is fun. My favourites are "Songs From The Swamp", "Smokey Bar Room Songs" and "Songs For The Occasional Drive On A Lonely Dusty Highway". You could do a whole post about your genres!

July 12th was quite a day for me. In Oxford, MS, in the morning, I walked past the ghost of Skip James. In Memphis, TN, in the afternoon, I stood in the same room that Howlin' Wolf, Johnny, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Roy and so many others stood and made history. In the evening, I returned to Oxford to learn that Harvey had died. I'll miss Harvey so much.

Love the post.
Also have done the iPod switch, and haven't touched the cds for years. Sometimes, when shuffling, new song "flavor pairings" are discovered. I have the same issues with categorizing. Django Reinhardt could possibly fit in a category including Dave Grisman and Rounder's Hillbilly Jazz, but then do you include Commander Cody? Decisions.
My Big Joe Turner story... saw him play a Hollywood club in the '80s. He killed. I love his Pablo album with the Trumpet Kings (Joe Turner/Dizzy Gillespie/Roy Eldridge/Harry "Sweets" Edison/Clark Terry - The Trumpet Kings Meet Joe Turner). Anyway, after many beers, I find myself peeing next to him in the small john. Very drunk, I turn and tell him how much I love that album. Instead of telling me to get the f#ck away, he just says happliy, "Oh yeah, man?" Cool guy.
As for Harvey Pekar, he celebrated what most of America tries to hide – the times one is depressed, confused, or both.
He was Clevo's poet laureate. Rough around the edges, but honest. Funny even though sometimes not his intention.
I remember watching that show the day it aired, and felt very uncomfortable, and more on Letterman's side. Now, it's the opposite. Rest in peace, Harvey.

Rocking postage, Tim. I enjoy where you have gone and where you will go with this site. Bring the good tunes to those that covet, to hell with everything else. ~B
